With 843 acres of beautifully landscaped greens, wooded glens, ponds, sports fields, and a professionally appointed amphitheater, Central Park is the ultimate backyard, and proximity to it is one of the most desirable amenities that any Upper West Side condominium can provide. No matter your taste or age, there’s something for everyone in Central Park. Don’t miss out on these upcoming performances and ongoing activities in the city’s marquee public space.

Shakespeare in the Park Three things herald the arrival of spring in Central Park: blossoms, sun worshipers, and The Public Theater’s Shakespeare in the Park. New York City is full of quality theatrical offerings, ranging from highly produced Broadway musicals to indie productions staged in every conceivable type of performance space. Occupying the best of both worlds with its professional talent, stellar production values, and free tickets, Shakespeare in the Park is invariably a treat during its annual May-to-August runs. Always sharp-witted, often bawdy, and uniquely creative, the 150+ free shows that have taken place at the open-air, 1,800-seat Delacorte Theater have delighted more than 5 million visitors since it opened for performances in 1962. Free tickets are distributed at the Delacorte on the day of the show (starting at noon). The 2018 season will feature Tony winner Ruben Santiago-Hudson’s staging of Othello and a community-minded musical adaptation of Twelfth Night. Marionette Theatre Imported to the United States as an exhibit for the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia in 1876, the Swedish Cottage enchanted Frederick Law Olmsted, who brought it to Central Park in the following year. Occupied by a traveling marionette company for several years in the 1930s and 40s, the building was upgraded in 1973 to include a permanent theater specifically designed for marionettes. Since then, the Marionette Theatre has entertained hundreds of thousands of children.

These days, a show at the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre is an experience not to be missed, especially for those with children. Ticket revenues support free PuppetMobile performances throughout New York City parks.

Sunrise Yoga Walk A Sunrise Yoga Walk through the park is a yoga-inspired workout routine/tour that can only happen in this locale, as it intersperses poses and stretches with a “series of power walks throughout Central Park’s most serene locations.” Tours start at 7 AM on Tuesdays and Thursdays and at 8 AM on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. This is certainly one of the perfect ways to start your day with a clear mind and refreshed spirit—via a stroll from your condo at The Astor to join a springtime yoga walk in the park.
